Family feud over Rs 40,000 in Barak Valley; father killed with axe, son critical

Just Rs 40,000! Yes, that is what caused a severe fight between two families which claimed one life, while other is extremely critical. The incident took place in Jirighat’s Makhan Nagar area which comes under Lakhipur Legislative Assembly.

60-year-old Shirajuddin lost his life while his son Azahar Hussain is fighting death. As per family members, today morning Azahar’s brother-in-law along with other family members of his wife asked him to join them. Apparently, they took Azahar with them and started hitting at him with an axe. Seeing that, his father, 60-year-old Shirajuddin, a farmer by profession rushed to save his son. There he got axed on his head.

Family members and neighbours rushed to the spot and took both father and son to Silchar Medical College and Hospital. There the doctors declared Shirajuddin as brought dead while Azahar’s condition was said to be extremely critical. The doctors said that Azahar was hit so strongly with the axe on his hand and leg that the bones have got cut accross. After examining they also found that he has incurred multiple injuries on his head and so they have referred him to Neigreims, Shillong.

Azahar’s wife said that her bother, brother-in-law, father and other family members tried to beat her husband many times before. She said that the two families were confronting frequently over a Rs 40,000 transaction. She informed that Azahar had lodged a Police complaint at Jirighat Police Station and the Panchayat was informed about the confrontation too.

The Panchayat had called for a meeting between the two families and reached a resolution which Azahar’s in-laws did not subscribe to. “There also they said that they will beat Azahar and kill him. When we protested this violent gesture at a Panchayat meeting they said, wait and watch. Today I have lost my father and it looks like my brother is not going to last long. A man was murdered in the morning and Police is yet to arrest anybody,” added Azahar’s brother.
