Female's body found hanging at her rented apartment in Meherpur; left a suicide note blaming housemates

A 28-year-old female was found hanging last night in Silchar. Shilpa Biswas, a resident of Tripura’s Kanchanpur area had rented an apartment near Suncity society in Meherpur. According to the information available with the owner of the house, she used to work as a receptionist at one of the private hospitals in Silchar.

Late Wednesday night (early Thursday morning) her hanging body was spotted by the owner of the residence. Police was informed and officials from the Rangirkhari Police Station recovered the body.

After searching the spot of death, the police got suspicious about the clothes that were hanging by the door covering it. As they removed the clothes, they found a suspected suicide note. On the door, with red crayons it is written, “Maa, Baba, Sorry. Amar mrittyur jonno dayi ei barir lok” which means, “Apologies my parents, the people of this house are responsible for my death.”

The owner of the apartment, who has many other tenants said that she had rented the room in January-February. “Because there was no movement in her room, I informed her father and called the member of the Panchayat. In the presence of the Member, Police was called and they found her body is hanging,” informed Paul.

Pranab Kumar Deka, OC Rangirkhari said the Police is investigating the matter. After postmortem, the body was handed over to extended family members. “The guardians will visit Silchar in three-four days and will lodge an FIR. We have read the note on the door and we will investigate the matter which will involve interrogating the flatmates, other tenants, the owner of the residence,” added Deka.

The officer said it is too early to draw a conclusion, it can be a suicide and it can be murder too.
