First electric train in Barak Valley to run from Silchar to Agartala, Barak Valley to get 3 Rajdhanis in future: Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy
Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy delivered a speech highlighting the developmental works done by the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) in India and Assam since 2014 and 2016 as it came to power. Former CM Sarbananda Sonowal has been appointed as a Central Minister in the Union Cabinet while Himanta Biswa Sarma has been vested the responsibility for leading the Assam Government since 2021. Roy mentioned that wherever BJP has managed to form the government in India, people have again and again voted them to power which indicates that BJP stands with the poor, powerless and disadvantaged people. He cited the recent elections in Meghalaya, Nagaland, and Tripura as evidence of the BJP’s popularity among the people.
Roy also highlighted the developmental works done by the BJP government in Barak Valley, such as the completion of the Broad gauge railway line project and the ongoing electrification of railway lines. He mentioned that trains are currently running at 100-110 km/h speed in the Valley, and after electrification is completed, they will run at 140-150 km/h speed. He also informed that the first electric train in the Barak Valley region will commence from Silchar to Agartala and later Guwahati will also be connected to Silchar through electric trains. Currently it takes around 6-6:30 hours to reach Agartala from Silchar via train. After electrification is done, it will only take about 4:30-5 hours to reach Agartala.
Roy informed that Indian Railways has selected two railway stations from the North East for developing them as world-class railway stations. One is Kamakhya Railway Station and the other is Silchar Railway Station. He also mentioned that the railways have sanctioned a project for an alternative rail route from Silchar to Guwahati via Arunachal-Chandranathpur and Lanka bypassing Haflong and Pahar line. The project will reduce the travel time from Silchar to Guwahati by 1-1:30 hours. Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw allocated Rs. 43 crores for the new survey of the proposed alternative rail route via Chandranathpur and Lanka. After the project is completed, people of Silchar can reach Guwahati in 6-6:30 hours.
Roy also informed that the Vistadome, which used to run from Guwahati to Haflong, now runs through the section from Haflong to Badarpur two days a week, making it a more beautiful and scenic journey after he convinced the Railway Minister to extend the same to Badarpur. The Vistadome departs from Guwahati at 6:55 in the morning and reaches Badarpur at 2 pm. It again departs from Badarpur at 2:20 pm and reaches Guwahati at 9:45 pm. So the Railways have actually created a system in which a person can depart from Guwahati and again reach Guwahati in the same day itself.
Roy announced that the Rajdhani, which departs from Agartala, now has a stoppage at Karimganj, and in the future, the Rajdhani which will depart from Imphal will have a stoppage at Arunachal, and the Rajdhani which will run from Aizawl will have a stoppage at Badarpur, providing Barak Valley with three Rajdhanis in the future.
The speech delivered by Silchar MP Rajdeep Roy highlights the developmental works done by the BJP in India and Assam, with a special focus on the Barak Valley region. His announcements regarding the development of railway infrastructure and the introduction of new facilities for travelers will undoubtedly be welcomed by the people of the region.
