Former Silchar MLA Dilip Paul is back in BJP; New Turn in Politics
In a significant political development, former Silchar MLA Dilip Kumar Paul rejoined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on January 28, during the BJP Assam’s new recruitment event titled “Jogdan Karjosuchi.” The event witnessed the inclusion of over 150 leaders from the Indian National Congress Assam and AASU into the BJP fold.
Dilip Kumar Paul, a two-time MLA from Silchar, had the potential to make history as the first BJP MLA in Silchar to secure the position for the third consecutive term in 2021. However, the party ticket was awarded to Dipayan Chakraborty instead.
In 2021, Paul made headlines when he departed from the BJP, raising eyebrows by reportedly attempting to expose certain party leaders in connection to alleged illegal syndicates. Now, almost three years later, on January 26, 2024, Dilip Paul has returned to the BJP, marking a notable comeback.
During the event, Dilip Paul was honored and adorned with a party hat, which he graciously accepted with a smile. The significance of this moment was underscored by the event moderator, emphasizing the importance of Paul’s rejoining for the party.
Noteworthy is the fact that the event saw the induction of many leaders from the Indian National Congress Assam into the BJP. On X (Formerly known as Twitter) Minister Pijush Hazarika, taking a sarcastic tone, attributed this influx to Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Bus Nyay Yatra, suggesting that the impact of the Congress leader’s journey had influenced leaders to make the switch to the BJP.
