Founder of Barak Bulletin will be tried for sedition! FIR lodged against him for publishing an editorial

Ladies and Gentlemen, Barak Bulletin will be tried for sedition. An FIR has been registered by the police U/S 153 – A, 124 -A, 501 and 505 of the Indian Penal Code against Anirban Roy Choudhury, founder of Barak Bulletin. The complaint was lodged individually by Shantanu Sutradhar.

Since our inception, we have presented stories with the highest standards of professionalism and objectivity. Truth and nothing but the truth – has always been our guiding light. When we see patent injustice meted out to people, we write. When we see Barak getting marginalized every passing day, we write. When we see bengali consciousness getting subdued by an aggressive fusion of ethno-religious effort, we write.

That’s what media is supposed to do- TO CHECK THE EXCESSES OF THE STATE AND TO CONVEY INFORMATION ABOUT THE SAME TO THE PEOPLE OF OUR LAND. May be, such journalism has become old-school and seditious too.

One may wonder if we have limited ourselves to critiquing the government only. To this allegation, we will humbly tell you that we have always communicated information about all the schemes, developments and announcements that the Government puts out in public forum. We have never refrained from appreciating the government when it’s due.

However , Barak Bulletin believes that even if there is one reader, one citizen and one conscious voter, we will go on doing journalism the way we have always done.

We take the charge of sedition with an open embrace. Barak Bulletin will co-operate with the police as much as possible. At the same time, we assure, threats, cases or beyond, independent journalism will continue. Not down, never out!!!
