Gibbons suffer electrocution at Indo-Bangla border in Karimganj; BSF's active intervention saves 1, 2 dead

In an unfortunate incident, three gibbons were electrocuted, and were found injured on ground near India Bangladesh border of Karimganj on Friday. The incident came to notice at about 10:40 hrs, while on patrolling in AoR of BOP Mukamtilla, BSF troops.

The matter was immediately informed to Forest Beat Officer, Lakhipur who went immediately and evacuated the primates to Patharkandi Veterinary Hospital and concerned RFO- Manoj Das was also informed.

“On examination, the doctor declared two gibbons dead and the third one, who was alive, was administered with two injections. The veterinary doctor instructed to the forest officer to release one Gibbon who was alive in forest area and the rest two were buried” said forest sources.

In the afternoon, evacuation party came back to BOP Lakhipur and as per instructions, the one was left in forest area of BOP Mukamtilla and rest two were buried by the Beat Office, Lakhipur.

On being contacted, Karimganj DFO Vasanthan expressed grief on the incident and said that a departmental investigation will be conducted on the cause of the deaths. “We would visit the location tomorrow and after the investigation, we would take up the electricity department if required” said Vasanthan, Karimganj DFO.
