Girl in Das Colony kills herself after her long-term boyfriend got married; leaves note with photograph

A dead body was found hanging with the fan at a residence in Das Colony last night. Rangirkhari Police was informed about the incident and they rushed to the spot in Panchayat Road. The window of the house was forced open by the Police and through that, they opened the door of the house locked from inside.

The dead body was recovered and after a preliminary investigation, the Police identified the deceased as Lipi Dam Kanungo. The 34-year-old is originally a resident of Chandua Tea Estate located near the Salchapra area. However, she was staying alone at a rented apartment in Das Colony, Silchar.

The locals saw the body first and it was recovered by the Police at around 7:30 pm. According to the locals, Lipi Dam Kanungo left a suicide note where she accused her alleged boyfriend of cheating. Holding Drubojyoti Nath of Karimganj responsible in her alleged suicide note, she wrote that he has cheated her and got married to some other girl. A photo of Nath was left with the suicide note, and both are in possession of Rangirkhari Police.

According to Police records, Lipi Dam Kanungo an alumna of GC College Silchar and a long-term employee at Ford Showroom. “The family members of the deceased have identified her. The body has been sent to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for postmortem. The Police is investigating the matter. We have got to know about an alleged love angle to this suicide, it is too early for us to comment on it as the investigation has just started,” said Gyas Uddin, the investigating officer from Rangirkhari Police Station.

The Police officials have also got to know that a Police complaint was filed by the girl against Drubojyoti Nath – her alleged boyfriend a few months back. In the complaint, Lipi Dam Kanungo accused him of being a “fraud”. “We will look into that complaint and at the same time check what actions were taken back then,” said Gyas Uddin.
