Godown and vehicle destroyed by devastating fire in Khulicherra, damage worth several lakhs
A godown stocking brooms and a Tata DI vehicle were completely destroyed in a devastating fire. The incident took place on Friday at around 10:30 am in Khulicherra market of Jamalpur Gram Panchayat located in South Dholai area under Dholai police station. The local people saw a sudden fire in the godown of Zahirul Hussain Laskar, a resident of Khulicherra, where the brooms were stored.
The efforts to extinguish the fire began. The fire brigade was informed. Locals alleged that Dholai Fire Service Station is only twelve kilometers away from the incident site but at least after one and a half hours of reporting the incident, two engines of the fire service reached the spot. By that time the godown and vehicle got obliterated by fire. If the fire service engine had arrived on time, the amount of damage would have been much less as per the locals.
Speaking to reporters the owner of the broom godown said, “I came from Mizoram yesterday night at around 12 am and was sleeping. Suddenly I heard from locals that my godown caught fire. I came and saw that the entire godown was on fire. There is no electricity connection here. I had goods worth Rs, 22-23 lakhs which got gutted in the fire.”
The owner of the DI vehicle told reporters, “I received a phone call and came to know that my vehicle caught fire. I was helpless as I couldn’t do anything. All my important documents of the vehicle also got destroyed in the fire alongwith the vehicle. There is no electricity source here so the origin of this fire is unknown. Surely a wicked individual hatched a conspiracy and ignited the fire.”
He added, “It is regretful that the Dholai Fire Service station is located just 12 kms away from Khulicherra Bazar. The fire brigade came half an hour later after the media persons arrived. If the fire brigade arrived on time, maybe the godown and my vehicle could have been saved then.”
