Governor of Assam declares public holiday; banks to remain shut tomorrow
If you could not go to the bank today and planning a visit tomorrow, then hold on. Banks are shut tomorrow too and so are government schools and colleges, offices and courts as the governor of Assam issued a notification declaring September 11, 2018 as a public holiday on the account of ‘Tithi of Srimanta Shankardeva’.
The notification states, “The governor of Assam is pleased to declare 11th September 2018 as a public holiday under section 25 of N.I act 1881 (XXIV of 1881) read with the government of India, Ministry of Home Affairs notification No. 20/25/Pub-1 dated 8th June 1987 on account of Tithi of Srimanta Sankardeva. All the financial institutions/cooperative banks etc. within the state of Assam will remained closed on account of this Public Holiday under N.I Act.”
It is worth mentioning here that the last time the banks were open for customers was last Friday that is September 7, 2018. Following which came in the second Saturday and Sunday followed by the Bharat Bandh and tomorrow Srimanta Sankardeva tithi. Banks, financial institutions are necessity for common people and four days without it is like spending days without water in the middle of a desert.
The notification dated September 10, 2018 was signed by additional secretary to the Govt. of Assam and copied to bureaucrats in Assam and across the country.
