
Health department to import parts from Singapore; CT Scan machine in SMCH to be functional by May 8
Recently it was reported in the media that the CT scan machine installed at Silchar Medical College & Hospital has been non-functional. Medical college authorities then informed that a special part of the machine got damaged which affected the normal function of the machine. And for time being, the CT scan machine at Satindra Mohan Dev Civil Hospital is being used to mitigate the demand.
In this regard, it has been informed that the health department will import the faulty parts from Singapore and try to make the machine functional again from 8th May.
In this regard, Vice Principal of Silchar Medical College Dr. Bhaskar Gupta said such machines are very sensitive and due to damage of a very vital part, the machine has got non-functional. “The parts needed to bring it back in function are not available anywhere else in the country except Delhi. As a result, it is difficult to repair the machine before the withdrawal of lockdown. We have informed it to the health minister and he has made arrangements to bring a team from abroad”.
Dr. Gupta added that patients are not being deprived of the facility, and are being sent to Silchar Civil Hospital where there is a newly installed machine available in working condition.
Silchar Medical College has recently been opened back for the general public after weeks, it was declared exclusive for Covid patients. More than a thousand patients came for treatment in the first three days. The Hospital is providing special services for emergency patients. However, one Corona patient is still in treatment there. The hospital is trying its best to cure him and has hoped good moral support from people.
Dr. Gupta informed that the 8th test of the Assam’s first corona case has also come positive. He has been undergoing treatment in the COVID zone of Silchar Medical College Hospital for about a month. In addition to the Coronavirus, he is also suffering from cancer. Therefore, special medical care is being given to him.
