
IMD issues weather warning for Barak Valley in view of Very Severe Cyclonic Storm "Mocha"
As per the latest press release issued by Indian Meteorological Department, very severe cyclonic storm “Mocha” is likely to move north-northeastwards and intensify further over Eastern central Bay of Bengal. It is very likely to cross southeast Bangladesh and north Myanmar coasts between Cox’s Bazar (Bangladesh) and Kyaukpyu (Myanmar), close to Sitwe (Myanmar) around noon of May 14, 2023 as a Very Severe Cyclonic Storm with maximum sustained wind speed of 150-160 kmph gusting to 175 kmph.
In the wake of the approaching Very Severe Cyclonic Storm “Mocha,” Barak Valley (i.e. South Assam) is expected to experience heavy rainfall on May 14. As per the latest update from the Indian Meteorological Department, rainfall at many places with heavy to very heavy rainfall at isolated places is likely to occur in the region.
In addition to the rainfall, strong winds with speeds reaching up to 50-60 kmph gusting to 70 kmph are expected in Tripura, Mizoram and south Manipur on May 14.
