Intoxicating tablets worth over Rs. 7 lakh seized in Lakhipur; 2 arrested
Intoxicating tablets worth over Rs. 7 lakh were seized and two persons arrested in this connection at Hmarkhawlien under Lakhipur constituency in Cachar district on Friday night.
The arrested persons were identified as Haosen Singte and Rabijul. Singte hails from Jiribam in Manipur, while Rabijul is a resident of Jirighat in Cachar district.
According to sources, an operation based on specific information was carried out jointly by Lakhipur police and CRPF jawans around 9:30pm on Friday night at Hmarkhawlien, around 35km from Silchar, and arrested Singte and Rabijul with 75 packets of Yw tablets.
The market value of the contraband is over Rs. 7 lakh, sources said.
Police investigation revealed that Singte had come to Hmarkhawlien with the tablets from Jiribam and Rabijul was about to take them to Jirighat. However, they were caught red-handed, police sources said.
On Saturday, the arrested persons were produced before a court at Lakhipur. Singte was remanded to police custody for three days, while Rabijul was sent to judicial custody.
