Karimganj Police seize Yaba Tablet worth Rs 20 crore, "Two Apprehended," SP Partha Protim Das

In a significant breakthrough against drug trafficking, an anti-narcotics operation was launched in the ShriKrishna Nagar area under Nilambazar Police Station in Karimganj, Assam. The operation, spearheaded by Karimganj Superintendent of Police (SP) Partha Protim Das, resulted in the interception of a vehicle bearing registration number AS 01 FK 2939. What followed was a startling discovery – a staggering 1,00,000 Yaba tablets concealed within secret chambers of the vehicle.

SP Partha Protim Das disclosed, “Two individuals, identified as Abul Hasan from Eraligool area under Patharkandi Police Station and Saharul Islam from Lamajuar under Badarpur Police Station, have been apprehended in connection with the seizure.” Abul Hasan, who hails from Dimapur, Nagaland, had been under his surveillance for the past six months. Investigations reveal he was a key figure in the supply chain and transportation network of narcotics, particularly in Upper Assam, notably in the Margherita area.

Police sources, speaking on condition of anonymity, disclosed that during interrogation, the apprehended individuals divulged crucial information. They revealed that the vehicle originated from Dimapur, but the illicit consignment was loaded at a warehouse located in the Ramnagar area of Silchar.

The seizure of Yaba tablets worth Rs 20 crore underscores the persistent challenge of drug trafficking in the region. Yaba, a combination of methamphetamine and caffeine, is a highly addictive and potent stimulant often associated with devastating health and social consequences. Authorities continue to intensify efforts to combat the menace of narcotics trafficking, but the latest seizure serves as a stark reminder of the ongoing battle against illicit drugs in the region.
