Kingpin of extremist organisation HPC (President) Group arrested in special operation of Assam Rifles-Cachar Police at Lakhipur

Nine members of militant organisation Hmar People’s Convention Democratic Cachar surrendered to Cachar police alongwith weapons last Wednesday. After three days, i.e. today, the Lakhipur Police managed to arrest the chairman of HPC (President) group named Lalmin Thang Sanate (52) from Fulertal Markulin area under Lakhipur Police Station area.

Based on a tip-off from confidential sources, a large team of Assam Rifles, SDPO of Lakhipur Police and OC Rajesh Kumar of Lakhipur Police Station, raided the house of HPC (President) Group Chairman’s house in Markulin and arrested him. Four 0.32 Automatic Thailand made pistols and 48 rounds of ammunitions were seized from his house. As per the allegation of locals, tribal members of the militant organisation were involved in extortion activities in Alni, Chonbari, Monkhush areas despite many of their cadres surrendering before Police. The locals reported the matter to Lakhipur police. Extorting money on the eve of Christmas is not a new thing. 

Arrested kingpin of militant organisation HPC (President) Group Lalmin Thang Sanate has been involved in anti national activities and various other crimes for a long time. He originally hails from Manipur and was executing various anti-social activities including kidnapping, extortion, murder, stockpiling of weapons, adopting the strategy of uniting other insurgent outfits of North East as well as the four factions of HPC. For the last three months he was camping in Churchandpur, Manipur to procure arms and ammunitions. He was also trying to establish links with militant outfits ULFA, UNLF, IM, KIA for procuring arms and ammunitions from them. Earlier he was arrested twice by Cachar police. Another time he was arrested in Sonitpur district’s Tezpur. According to police sources, there are several cases pending against him in Assam as well as in Mizoram and Manipur. Notably, Sanate graduated from St. Anthony College, Shillong.
