Lakhipur school headmaster beats 7-year-old student mercilessly as punishment, reported to police

A seven-year-old student was mercilessly beaten by his English teacher as he could not spell the word “brush” correctly. The beating injured the student of the second standard so badly that there were injuries on his head and other parts of his body.

This unfortunate incident happened on Saturday, December 17 at Telengram Lower Primary School in Lakhipur. Debajit Dutta, who is the headmaster of the state government-administered school punished the child Ayyub corporally.

Last Saturday, when Dutta was teaching the students, Ayyub failed to spell then word correctly. Following this, the teacher beat him mercilessly with a stick. Pained by the torture, he fell to the ground and begged for mercy. Ayyub was also hurt in the head and even started bleeding. After the school got over, the child somehow managed to reach home and complained to his mother about the same.

Ayyub’s father who is a courier delivery agent, spoke about the matter, “I was out for work and received a call from my wife regarding this, I rushed home and took my son to the Lakhipur Primary Health Centre. On the way home, I talked to the teacher on phone but he treated this matter with neglect as if it was a daily affair for him. At the hospital, the doctors said this needed police attention and hence I also lodged an FIR at the Lakhipur Police Station on the same day”. The Lakhipur Police lodged the FIR bearing case number 260/22 and started an investigation into the matter.

In the evening, officials from the education department of the state government reached Ayyub’s home along with the members of the school management committee. The officials and the management committee requested the parents of the injured student to resolve the matter by themselves. The father further mentioned, “When I first called the teacher who beat my child mercilessly, he didn’t bother to apologise or even regret any of his action and now they are requesting to solve this. It is not the first time that this teacher has punished a student corporally, there are several others as well who have been the victim of his beating”.

Ayyub’s parents and other parents in the area have also expressed their angst against the cruel behaviour of the teacher. The parents denied solving the matter without police investigation and have asked for stringent measures against this teacher.
