Landslide on Silchar-Aizawl road; vehicles stranded for long hours
Vehicular movement was disrupted on National Highway-54 (Silchar-Aizawl road) for long hours following a landslide at Khamrang in the wee hours of Friday.
According to sources, the incident took place around 3:30am on Friday morning when stones and portions of land from a hillock started falling on around 300m of the road at Khamrang in Kolasib district in Mizoram, around 138km from Silchar.
As a result, the road developed major cracks after which vehicular movement came to a standstill. The incident happened near Sairang-Khamrang gas plant, sources said.
Over 300 vehicles, on both sides, have been stranded on the road. Locals said it would take some time to clear the route as it has been completely messed up because of the landslide. The road was not cleared, as per last available reports.
Following the landslide, vehicles have started operating through the Sherkhan road, which connects Silchar with Aizawl.
