Locals allegedly threatened to kill LP school teacher, no action by police after FIR
An assistant techer of a lower primary school was allegedly manhandled by two locals of a village in the Dholai LA constituency of Cachar. The female teacher was also allegedly threatened murder. On the other hand, the alleged miscreants have blamed the teacher to have misbehaved with them when they went to the school to invite the teachers for a kirtan in the village. This incident happened on November 9 at Saraspur LP School in Dholai.
The teacher, Supta Seal in her FIR submitted to the Dholai Police Station on November 12 mentioned, “while I was discharging my Govt. duty in school dated 10/11/2022 at around 11.10 AM, the two local miscreants namely Bijoy Panday and Narsing Koiri, of Rajgabindapur village entered my classroom without prior permission and directly threatened me using slag language and tried to physically assault me in front of all teacher and students”.
The reason behind this attack on her, the teacher said was a visit by senior officials of the state education mission including the Deputy Inspector of Schools on November 9. In a media statement, she said, “The Deputy Inspector of Schools had come on a regular visit to the school to see if the mid-day meal is functioning normally. He found several anomalies in the rice and stock and asked to see the register. He then asked me to prepare a report based on this as the Head Master in charge can neither speak Bengali nor Assamese. This instance irked the two and they said the Inspector had never visited the school before and I had called these officials to the school because I am playing dirty politics”. After her FIR was filed, she also alleged that the police didn’t take any action and she feels at risk of being killed by them anywhere in the village. She said, “After the police came to the school, they said these two who attacked me have political backing and I can not do anything against them. The police instead of protecting my rights are siding with the ones who attacked and threatened to murder me”.
On the other hand, the alleged miscreant Bijoy Panday said, “I didn’t attack anyone. I went to the school to invite the teachers to the kirtan that we were organising in the temple. Before I entered the school the teacher (Supta Seal) had misbehaved with us and stopped us from entering the school. I didn’t say anything to her and I just replied that I had come to meet the headmaster but since she didn’t allow us, we didn’t enter further. Later she went to the Dholai Police station to file an FIR against me for no reason. When the police came to enquire with the teachers, no one of them said to see any attack on her”.
