Lured, intoxicated, and killed: 8 accused of rape and murder in Katigorah

In a shocking incident from Kandigram in Katigorah, Cachar, a young woman was allegedly murdered after being forced to consume a poisonous substance.

According to the complaint, the 19-year-old woman was in a relationship with Saiful Uddin from Tintikri village in Katigorah. On Saturday (January 4), Saiful allegedly lured her away from home with the promise of marriage. Listening to this, she eloped with Saiful, little did she know what fate would have for her.

He reportedly raped her and later took her to his house, where he and his family members allegedly beat her and forced her to drink a poisonous substance.

After the assault, Saiful took the critically ill woman to Katigorah Model Hospital. However, upon learning that the victim’s family had arrived at the hospital, Saiful and his family fled the scene. Due to her deteriorating condition, the woman was referred to Silchar Medical College. Struggling for her life there, the victim died two days later. On Monday (January 6), she was declared dead. Her body was then sent for a postmortem examination.

The mother informed that they had filed an FIR with the local police. The deceased victim’s uncle said, “He eloped with my niece and they tortured her. Later they forced her to consume poison and threw her on the road. They also took all her belongings. While she was undergoing treatment, she told her mother, she won’t survive and wrote the names of four individuals on a piece of paper, who had raped her. She asked her mother to find them”.

Following the incident, the victim’s family lodged a complaint at Katigorah Police Station yesterday against Saiful Uddin and seven others. Although police have launched an investigation, none of the accused have been apprehended yet.
