Maharashtra Truck Driver Held as Borkhola Police Seize Illegal Cough Syrup Worth Rs. 2.1 Crore

In a major anti-narcotics operation, Cachar Police seized 29,400 bottles of suspected illegal cough syrup from a truck at Balachara Toll Gate under Borkhola Police Station in Assam’s Cachar district. Police also arrested the truck driver in connection with the case.

According to information available, the operation was conducted after police received a secret tip-off regarding the transportation of illegal substances through the area. Acting on the input, police intercepted a truck bearing registration number MP-09-HH-6732 and carried out a detailed search of the vehicle.

During the search, police reportedly recovered 196 cartons containing a total of 29,400 bottles of cough syrup suspected to be narcotic in nature. The cartons were allegedly concealed beneath sacks of rice loaded on the truck in an apparent attempt to avoid detection during transit.

Police identified the arrested driver as Jajbir Singh, a resident of Maharashtra. He was taken into custody on charges related to the transportation of the seized contraband. Authorities said the estimated market value of the recovered cough syrup is around Rs 2.1 crore.

Following the seizure, police launched further investigation into the matter. The arrested driver is currently being questioned to gather additional information regarding the source, destination and possible network linked to the consignment.

The operation once again highlights the continued efforts of Cachar Police to crack down on the smuggling of narcotic substances through the district.
