Minister Parimal Suklabaidya expresses dissatisfaction on ECI's delimitation proposal poses questions
Transport Minister of Assam, Parimal Suklabaidya too expressed his discontent with the draft of constituency delimitation. He vowed to approach the Election Commission in the near future, demanding a reconsideration of their decision.
Suklabaidya specifically criticised the name change of the Dholai constituency, stating that the interests of the people should be prioritised during the delimitation process.
The minister also voiced opposition to the de-reservation of the Karimganj Lok Sabha constituency, highlighting its geographical significance along the international border. Suklabaidya announced his intention to address these concerns with the Election Commission promptly.
On the other hand, in a strong reaction to the draft of constituency delimitation published by the Election Commission of India yesterday, the District Congress President of Silchar, Abhijit Paul, has accused the authorities of discriminatory practices, favoring the RSS, BJP and AIUDF. Paul claimed that the draft has been strategically designed to provide pre-planned advantages to certain political parties, rather than representing the best interests of the Barak Valley.
Expressing his dissatisfaction with the draft, Paul argued that the population of Barak Valley has increased significantly, warranting an increase in the number of assembly constituencies and elected representatives. However, to his dismay, the draft instead removed two assembly constituencies from the region, leading him to allege that communal politics played a role in the decision-making process.
The Congress party, aligning with Paul’s objections, firmly opposed the draft and declared their intention to raise strong objections against it.
