Missing Cachar Woman Found Dead After Nearly Two Days, Husband Names Two Men in FIR

A married woman who went missing from her home in Dholai, Cachar district, was found dead nearly two days later, raising questions over the circumstances surrounding her death.

The deceased has been identified as Tapati Chakraborty, wife of Rabindra Chakraborty and a resident of Bhuvandhar Forest Village under Jibandram Gram Panchayat.

Police recovered Tapati’s body from Punikhali Nala near the cremation ground in Devipur Part-II area of Jibandram Gram Panchayat on Saturday morning. The body was later identified by her husband.

According to the family, Tapati had dinner with her husband and child on the night of August 6 before going to sleep. Rabindra told the media that he woke up at around 1 am and found the door of their house open. When he looked inside, Tapati was missing.

The family searched for her through the night and at different places the following day but could not find her. Rabindra subsequently approached Dhalai Police Station and filed a missing complaint on August 7.

While the search was underway, a local resident reportedly spotted a body lying in Punikhali Nala on Saturday morning. Police reached the spot and recovered the body, which was later identified as Tapati.

Speaking to the media in an emotional state, Rabindra said that he had returned home from work on August 6 when Tapati told him that she was going to the market to buy fish. According to him, she returned home later, and the family had dinner together before going to sleep.

Rabindra has now filed an FIR at Dholai Police Station against two people, including Mridul Kanti Das, headmaster of Bhuvandhar Forest Village LP School. He has alleged that Tapati’s phone contained numbers belonging to the two men and that she had lengthy conversations with them before her disappearance.

The husband said he informed the police after noticing the two numbers in her phone. He has expressed suspicion over their possible involvement in his wife’s disappearance and death. These allegations have not been established, and the role of the two named individuals remains subject to police investigation.

Police have sent Tapati’s body to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination. The medical report is expected to help determine the cause of death.

Investigators are also examining Tapati’s call records, her movements before she went missing, her last communications and the circumstances surrounding the recovery of her body.

The exact circumstances leading to Tapati Chakraborty’s death remain unclear. Police investigation and the post-mortem report are expected to provide further clarity.
