'Monkey Menace': 2nd standard KV Karimganj student gets bitten by monkey inside school campus
If you have watched the movie “Eeb Allay Ooo” by Prateek Vats on Netflix, you might know about this modern problem. Even if you have not, “monkey menace” needs no new introduction. This is a typical urban problem, starting from the nation’s capital city Delhi to your hometown, they are everywhere. These primates can get dangerous at points, from snatching your food or valuables or even attacking and biting you. Due to deforestation and the unavailability of shelter and food, they scout through the towns and cities now. Their attack can be a vulnerable point of infection. But attacking them is not an option. There are even several court proceedings against the attack on monkeys.
One such case of attack was reported today at Nilmani Road in Karimganj, where a student of the second standard was attacked by a monkey, inside her school campus. When this student of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Karimganj was entering the school gate early in the morning and walking toward her school building, a monkey started to follow her. Initially, she didn’t notice that, but when she did, she panicked and screamed at the primate. The monkey ran towards her and bit her in the leg. Luckily her father saw that right at the moment and rushed her to the Civil Hospital for immediate treatment.
Speaking about the incident, the father of the traumatised child said, “This is a common problem in the Nilmani Road area. While we saw some monkeys by the wall of the school boundary, we asked the guard to let us in so that we could be reassured that our kids entered the school building safely. But I guess rules are rules. Unfortunately, my kid was the victim. While she was entering the school building, one monkey started following her, one thing led to another and before anyone could do anything, the monkey leapt over to attack and bit my daughter in her foot. I couldn’t hold myself anymore, so I ran through the school gate and somehow saved my frightened daughter from the monkey”.
With the prompt action of the father and the help of other parents, she was then rushed to the Civil Hospital. Speaking about her present situation the father said, “The government hospital had all the facilities and the doctors were very caring. They gave the anti-rabies injection and did her first aid and consoled her as well. The school Principal and her Class-Teacher called me twice and asked about her condition. I don’t blame the school or the guard, it was one unfortunate event”.
The traumatised kid is now in her safe abode with her parents, but this monkey menace is a very common incident, especially in Badarpur and Karimganj town area. Locals of Nilmani Road too have said that they’re fed-up with this problem. Who is responsible for this issue and how can we solve this remains the bigger question here.
