Mother runs from post to pole in search of justice for her murdered son, 6 months passed, police failed to trace any culprit

It has been over six months since Rita Singh Chetri lost her only son in an unfortunate incident. Her son, Birbal Singh Chetri was allegedly murdered 6 months, but even after an FIR the police couldn’t even identify the culprit/culprits, let alone apprehend them. 22-year-old Birbal Singh Chetri’s mother is a widow and he was the sole breadwinner of the family of two. After Birbal Singh was allegedly murdered, his mother lodged an FIR at the Borkhola Police Station, but so far there has been no arrest, nor did the police give a copy of the FIR to the mother. She also alleged that the police threatened her to keep her mouth shut in front of the media and misbehaved with her.

Borkhola, Chandranathpur resident Rita Singh Chetri lost her 22-year-old son 6 months back. The mother has alleged that he was beaten to death by some unknown miscreants. When she went to the Borkhola Police Station to lodge an FIR, the police didn’t give a copy of the complaint to her and hence she can not say whether the FIR was even lodged. It has been six months since she lost her son and she made innumerable rounds to the thana but every time she was turned down. The police so far could not even identify who murdered her son. The mother runs from post to pole every other day, in search of justice which looks like a distant dream to her now.

Helplessly, the mother opened up in front of the media and said, “I don’t know who killed my son. I have lodged an FIR but I have not received any copy of the FIR from the police. I have begged all the police officers to find the culprits behind my son’s murder, but they don’t help me because I am a woman and have no pillars of support. The police officers even misbehave with me and treat me like dogs. I also went to the MLAs and every other leader, but everyone refuses to help. I have no one to support me, if I ask someone to accompany me to the police station, they ask for 200 to 300 rupees in return”.

The widow also mentioned, “I can not sleep at night and keep on waiting for my son, but he will never return while his culprits roam free without the police taking any actions. The police officer has also threatened to not open my mouth in front of the media. The police rather say that my son died of intoxication but even in the postmortem nowhere mentioned anything about alcohol”. Why are the police unable to find the culprits of her son? Is it because they are incompetent or is it because the case belongs to a poor mother, a widow and a woman? This is a question that needs to be asked.
