Multiple landslides in Silchar-Lumding rail route; Silchar-Guwahati passenger train cancelled

On one side when entire Barak Valley is threatened by flood, the Railway services on the other hand are now disrupted. Multiple landslides between Silchar and Lumding in last 12 hours has resulted on cancellation of trains while few are now being controlled from Lumding.

Rail authority has no clue at this stage about the time required to clear the track. As informed by the Railway authority Landslide has occurred between Fiding and Mahul, another one in Jhantiga and multiple between New Harangajao and Tunnel number 9 as a result of which train number 55616 Guwahati Silchar is controlled at Lumding. 25657 Sealdah-Silchar Kanchanjunga Express is also likely to be controlled at Lumding. 55616 Silchar – Guwahati fast passenger train has been cancelled today. 15658 Agartala – Sealdah Kanchanjunga Express to be controlled at Badarpur Railway Station.

“We are trying to clear the tracks as soon as possible. It would be misleading to mention a time at this stage, may be by evening we will be in a better position to comment on the time needed to restore Railway services,” says a senior official at Northeast Frontier Railways.

The official also added that there are chances that more trains operating in the landslide struck route might get cancelled in upcoming days.
