The Narayan Paul Memorial Prize Money Super Division League Cum Knockout Tournament is starting from 8th December. The best 6 clubs in the district will take part in it. Top officials of Silchar DSA called a press conference on Saturday afternoon and informed about it. Like last year, this year also, prominent businessman Ankur Paul is sponsoring this top-level tournament of the district. He will sponsor this tournament in memory of his late father Narayan Paul.
This time 6 teams will play in Super Division. They are India Club, Town Club, Itkhola AC, United Club, Club Oasis, and Jogajog Sangha. Jogajog Sangha will play in the six-team Super League this time as they won the First Division tournament last year. In the Super Division, the champion team will get 30,000 rupees including a trophy. The runner-up team will get twenty thousand rupees including a trophy. There are also other interesting prizes.
The game will be played with a white ball and players will be wearing coloured jerseys. Secretary of DSA, Bijendra Prasad Singh said, “We are going to organise the Super Division Cricket League for the second time. We were quite worried about the sponsorship of the tournament during the covid period. But this time too Ankur Paul has come forward to sponsor the tournament. I thank him for that.”
The secretary said Paul came forward when many sponsors of DSA turned away during the covid period. He did not even make any cuts in the prize money of Super Division. The amount remains the same as that of last year.
The secretary further said that last year the winning team was given Rs 1,500 and the losing team was given Rs 1,000 in each match. But this time it will not be given like that. Instead, DSA will give match balls for every match. Last year, each club was paid Rs 6,000 for the jersey. Five of these teams will play in the Super Division again. So they will not be given any new jersey. Only the new team of the Super League Jogajog Sangha will be given the jersey.
Like last year, this year also the budget of the tournament is 1.5 lakh rupees. Sponsor Ankur Paul will give the whole of it. However, if the cost exceeds the budget, DSA will bear it.
Singh said the final of the tournament was held under floodlights last year. This time too they will try to organise the final under floodlights. However, floodlights have not been used for some time which can lead to problems. The matter has already been discussed with the clubs. So a decision will be taken about the final after taking cognizance of the situation.
In the first match of the tournament on December 6, Itkhola AC will play against Jogajog Sangha. The next day the United Club will face the Town Club. The two semi-finals of the tournament will be played on December 24 and 25. The final will be held on December 27. This time there will be no play-off match for the third position.
