The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) 2022 was announced for 11 categories today by the union education minister Dharmendra Pradhan. This includes overall, university, management, college, pharmacy, medical, engineering, architecture, ARIIA (Atal Ranking of Institutions on Innovation Achievements), law and research institutions.

This year too, IIT Madras retained its top spot in NIRF ranking in the overall category. The second and third position was occupied by IISC Bengaluru and IIT Bombay. In management category, the sequence of 1st, 2nd and 3rd is IIM Ahmedabad, IIM Bangalore and IIM Calcutta. In medical category, AIIMS Delhi topped the chart.

Talking about Silchar, NIT Silchar made a huge leap and improved its ranking by 10 positions compared to 2021. It secured a rank of 38 in the engineering category compared to 48 in 2021. Also it is ranked 76th in Overall Category and 50th in Research Institutions category. In 2021, the overall ranking of the institute was 93.

However Assam University Silchar dipped in its ranking as it didn’t find mention in top 100 this time. In 2021, university was ranked 93.

The National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) was approved by the MHRD and launched by Honourable Minister of Human Resource Development on 29th September 2015.

This framework outlines a methodology to rank institutions across the country. The methodology draws from the overall recommendations broad understanding arrived at by a Core Committee set up by MHRD, to identify the broad parameters for ranking various universities and institutions. The parameters broadly cover “Teaching, Learning and Resources,” “Research and Professional Practices,” “Graduation Outcomes,” “Outreach and Inclusivity,” and “Perception”.
