PM Modi visit: Over 2 lakh people turn up at Ramnagar Maidan
Prime Minister Narendra Modi kick started his 2019 general elections campaign to a rousing response of over 2 lakh people turning up at Ramnagar in south Assam’s Cachar district on Friday.
Addressing a mammoth gathering, PM Modi assured that no Indian will be left out of the NRC. “No Indian will be left out of the National Register of Citizens of India”, he assured.
“The government is also moving ahead with the Citizenship (Amendment) Bill. It is linked with emotions and related to peoples’ lives. It is not a gift to anyone but a penance against the injustice and many wrongs done in the past. I hope the bill will be passed soon in Parliament,” he said.
Modi also spoke about his government’s decision to implement Clause 6 of the Assam Accord “hanging” for 35 years. “Now the road is clear to safeguard the social, cultural and linguistic identity of Assam.
“I am indebted to the people of Assam for voting for the BJP in the recent panchayat elections and I am committed to repay this debt by ensuring the development of the state,” he said.
The ‘Vijay Sankalp Samavesh’ also saw some of the big leaders of the state make their conviction clear ahead of the Lok Sabha polls.
Assam Finance, Health and PWD minister Himanta Biswa Sarma took heavy potshots at Congress president Rahul Gandhi for making “baseless” corruption allegations on his government on the Rafale deal.
“Rahul Gandhi is a Pakistan sympathizer who is scared that his favourite country (Pakistan) might be threatened if our armed forces are strengthened by this deal. He and his family stands exposed”, Sarma said.
Sarma received a loud applause when he said that assuring that his party will not compromise with the safety of Hindus in the country. “Hindus deserve to live with dignity in their own country”, he asserted.
Meanwhile, Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal, while addressing the gathering, said that his main motive was to bridge gaps between the Brahmaputra and Barak Valley which is akin to PM Modi’s “Sabka Saath, Sabka Vikas” mantra. The Chief Minister also boasted of his achievements in the state ranging from enhancing rail, road and air connectivity as well facilitating the Jan Dhan, Mudra, Saubhagya, Atal Amrit, Ayushman Bharat schemes among others.
Several other top brass of the BJP too spoke on the occasion including MoS (I) Mahendra Kumar Singh, Assam BJP president Ranjit Kumar Das, Assam minister of forests, fisheries and excise Parimal Suklabaidya, Silchar MLA and former deputy speaker Dilip Paul, lone Mizoram BJP MLA B.D. Chakma, Patharkandi MLA Krishnendu Paul, Dholai MLA Aminul Haque Laskar, Ratabari MLA Kripanath Mallah, Assam BJP vice president Biswarup Bhattacharjee among several others. BJP national general secretary Ram Madhav was also present on the occasion.
