'Poush Bhogali Milan Utsav' inaugurated in Silchar

A two-day fest – “Poush Bhogali Milan Utsav” is being organised under the aegis of the All Assam Bengali Hindu Association (AABHA) at Gandhi Baag in Silchar.

The main objective of organising the event is to promote the rich history of Bengali and Assamese communities and help in maintaining a cordial bond between them.

Niharendra Narayan Tagore, chairperson of the Silchar Municipal Board, inaugurated the fest by lighting the ceremonial lamp on Sunday evening. Speaking on the occasion, Tagore applauded the association for coming up with the event saying the initiative would help in strengthening the relationship between the Bengali and Assamese communities.

He said it would have been even better if similar initiatives were taken from the Assamese community in the state. “Initiatives like these, if taken from their end too, will be great,” he said.

Chameli Paul, vice-chairperson of the Silchar Municipal Board, said the fest would help in bringing both the communities together and heaped praises on the association for organising the event.

“Bengalis are immensely sweet by nature and have deep love for sweets and all,” she remarked.

Among others, AABHA president Basudeb Sharma and the chairman of Prakriti News Concern Haran Dey were present.

The two-day fest will feature sweets representing both the Bengali and Assamese communities. Cultural programmes will be held as part of the event. Two Assamese artistes and two Bengali artistes will be felicitated for their contributions in the field of music and dance. The association members have urged one and all to attend the event and help in making it a grand success.
