Pulwama attack: Congress Sevadal Young Brigade takes out candle rally in Silchar

The Congress Sevadal Young Brigade took out a candle rally in Silchar on Friday evening paying homage to the Indian soldiers, who were killed in a terror attack on The Jammu-Srinagar highway on Thursday.

Over 40 Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) jawans were killed and many others injured when a car laden with explosives rammed into a CRPF bus – part of a convoy – in Pulwama district of Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday afternoon.

The bus which was carrying 51 CRPF jawans and was on its way from Jammu to Srinagar, was hit by a Mahindra Scorpio, which was loaded with over 300 kilograms of explosives and driven by a Jaish-e-Mohammad (JeM) suicide bomber. As a result, over 40 personnel died and many others were injured.

The rally, which started from Indira Bhavan around 6pm on Friday evening, saw scores of people apart from the Congress members, who visited different areas like Park Road, Central Road and Premtala and finally assembled at Rangirkhari. The rally concluded around 7:15pm.

The Congress members vociferously condemned the attack on the soldiers and demanded stern action against those involved. Members including district president Deepjay Roy, town president D. Simonto, assembly youth Congress president Rushal Dutta and district Congress general secretaries Abhijit Paul and Rajesh Deb among others were present.

Similarly, a candle rally was taken out by doctors and students of Silchar Medical College and Hospital last evening. The rally was taken out around 7:30pm. Floral tribute was paid in memory of the departed souls.

Meanwhile, the dastardly attack has triggered sharp reactions from various circles across the country with organisations, civil society groups and the masses demanding stringent action against the perpetrators. Some people have been detained and curfew has been imposed in Jammu following the incident.
