Rain Worsens Udharbond Road Crisis, Locals Cry for CM’s Help.

The Udharbond to Lathigram road, particularly the Durga Nagar Part 5 stretch along the Haflong road, has become a major safety hazard for residents and schoolchildren. Following even a small rainfall, the road condition worsens dramatically, leaving large potholes filled with stagnant water and making movement dangerous for both vehicles and pedestrians.

The situation has persisted for nearly two years, but no effective repair or maintenance work has been carried out. The incomplete drainage system on both sides of the road is the primary cause of the waterlogging. Locals said every spell of rain exposes the road’s vulnerability, turning it into a death trap for commuters.

Speaking to the media, a local resident said the condition of the road deteriorates significantly even after light rainfall, making it difficult and dangerous for commuters. He noted that a large number of schoolchildren use the road daily and alleged that several scooty, auto-rickshaw and tuk-tuk accidents have occurred due to waterlogged potholes caused by the incomplete drainage system on both sides of the road.

He further appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma and local MLA Rajdeep Goala to ensure the drainage work is completed up to the sewage drain near the post office and the road is repaired at the earliest.

Students who regularly use the road said it has remained in a dilapidated condition for nearly two years. They stated that waterlogging and large potholes make it extremely difficult to travel to school, especially during the rainy season. The students appealed to Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma to take immediate steps to repair the road and improve connectivity in the area.
