Rangirkhari Police arrests Firoz Khan who was trying to smuggle 20,000 KG Urea to Mizoram
Acting on a tip off, Ranghikhari Police managed to track down illegal smuggling or subsidised fertilizer, Urea. The Police got a tip that a truck from Guwahati is smuggling illegal goods to Mizoram. The Rangikhari outpost had then setup various check-posts in Sonai Road area and on the night of June 12, spotted a truck which was identical to the one mentioned in the tip.
When the Police officials deployed at the check-post tried to stop the truck, the driver accelerated with intentions of escaping the barricade. But, the police officials after a brief chase managed to nab him and the truck. When the Police personnel asked the driver about the goods he his carrying, the driver mentioned that he is carrying poultry food (Murgir Daana). The driver even furnished the chalan which too stated the same. Yet, the Police officials sensed something fishy and insisted on checking the carrier. The driver of the truck, Feroz Khan opened the carrier and Police discovered that the truck was carrying about 400 sacks of Urea. Each sack weighed around 50 kilograms.
The driver is now in jail while the truck is kept in Rangirkhari Police outpost. Urea is a subsidised fertilizer used for agricultural benefit. After initial investigation Khan revealed that the truck was loaded in Rongia and was headed towards Mizoram. Khan told Police that he was paid a premium to drive the truck to Mizoram, he said he was unaware of what is the truck loaded with.
It is worth mentioning here that Urea is kept under government custody and supplied to the farmers in need of the fertilizer. The questions that arise here are, how did Feroz Khan’s truck get loaded with 20,000 Kilograms of a subsidised fertilizers. Is it at all possible to get hold of Urea worth over a lakh without involvement of senior government officials, is there a corrupt racket in Sarba’s government which is smuggling fertilizer at a higher rate in neighbouring states. These are important questions and hope that Police will dig deep and find answers.
For now its a job well done by Rangirkhari Police, but it still has miles to go.
