Ranjit Das Back Home: BGB Hands Over Farmer to BSF After Day-Long Border Drama

Farmer Ranjit Das, who was reportedly taken across the India-Bangladesh border earlier on Tuesday from the Kinnarkhal border area in Cachar’s Katigorah, has been handed over to Indian authorities and returned home safely.

According to information received, Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) handed over Ranjit Das to the Border Security Force (BSF) at around 9:15 p.m. following a series of flag meetings between the border guarding forces of the two countries. Police later brought him to Katigorah Model Hospital for a medical examination and preliminary treatment.

While Ranjit Das is reported to be in stable condition, sources said he had allegedly been subjected to physical assault during the period he was held across the border. There was no immediate official statement detailing the nature or extent of his injuries.

The incident had triggered widespread concern in the border region after Ranjit Das, a resident of Chandinagar Part-II village, was taken across the border by a group of individuals from Bangladesh while he was cutting grass for cattle on agricultural land near Border Gate No. 31 at around 11 a.m. on Tuesday.

The reported incident led to protests by local residents, who gathered near the Kinnarkhal Border Outpost (BOP) demanding his immediate return. Following negotiations and multiple flag meetings between the BSF and BGB, the matter was resolved and Ranjit Das was handed back to Indian authorities on Tuesday night.
