Road Accident on East West Corridor due to faulty driving of a picnic bus; vegetable truck gets overturned

Thousands of people go on picnic on December 31 and the first day of the year. Many have not been able to spend their leisure moments all year round due to the outbreak of coronavirus, which has now led to a surge in the number of people going out on excursions in the new year. However, the overenthusiasm is now costing individuals their lives with frequent accidents it seems.

On Friday, a picnic vehicle coming from Dwarbond was speeding on the wrong lane of the road located at Rangpur which led to a fatal accident. The traveler bus hired by the picnic party hit a Swift car coming from the opposite direction and then again collided with a truck loaded with vegetables coming from the opposite direction causing the truck to overturn. Several people including the driver were slightly injured but no one got killed or seriously wounded.

Witnesses said that the traveler bus was coming from the wrong side very fast with loud music playing inside. Many picnic vehicles were on the road since morning, but no one went the wrong way. As soon as the traveler bus came forward, it hit a white Swift car coming from the opposite direction. However, the driver of the car tactfully managed to save himself and the side of the car got damaged to some extent. The traveler bus lost it’s control and went ahead colliding with another vegetable truck coming from the opposite direction. The driver of the truck tried hard to apply brakes, but the head on collision still caused the truck to overturn. The picnic bus also managed to avert any serious incident otherwise the damages could have further escalated as there were passengers inside the traveler bus.

The members of the picnic party said they were going for a picnic at Madhura Quarry from Dwarbond area. Almost everyone among them is a youngster and they had planned a picnic for the New Year. None of them were seriously injured but plans for their picnic have been thwarted as of now.

Local police force came and seized the bus. The driver is also being questioned. A Police official said, “People go for picnic in different areas adjacent to Udharbond on the East West Corridor. Especially on the first day of the new year, that number increases a lot. They are repeatedly told to drive in a controlled manner without breaking the road rules. We will keep a close eye on the area in future and take strict action against those who break the road rules. Fortunately, no one was seriously injured or killed in today’s accident, but it had the potential of getting fatal.”
