Rongmei FC becomes champion of MP Cup Football Tournament defeating United Brothers in the final

Silchar Rongmei FC became the champions of MP Cup Rural-Urban Knockout Football Tournament’s second edition. In today’s final match at the Satindra Mohan Dev Stadium, Rongmei FC defeated Poylapul’s United Brothers FC by 1-0. Gaihum Rongmei scored the only goal in the floodlit final in the 23rd minute. The final was an exciting match, with both teams putting up a good fight. However, Rongmei FC emerged victorious by playing compact football, even though the United Brothers FC did not trail far behind. Rather, the team had dominated in the second half. But due to finishing errors, they had to be content with the position of runner’s up in the final match.

United Brothers FC had a good start to the final, launching attacks from the beginning. However, they failed to score despite creating several good chances. The team faced problems in synchronising the midfield with the forward line. This was somewhat surprising because United Brothers FC had played well throughout the tournament but couldn’t give their best in the final.

On the other hand, Rongmei was playing great build-up with small passes. They formed a series of attacks in the two wings. Although Thanjik Rongmei was out of form in the midfield, Jianchun Rongmei and Apello Rangmei made up for it well. Their midfield looked very compact. The Rongmei team had excellent midfield understanding with respect to the attacking division. Rongmei team’s star striker Gaihum Rongmei, who is in great form, played well in the final as well. In the 23rd minute, he scored a goal with a sharp left-footed finish from Apello Rongmei’s cross.

Gaihum’s total number of goals in the tournament is 9. In the semi-finals of the final round, Rongmei FC defeated Nagakhal FC due to Gaihum’s two goals. The Gaihum factor also worked well in the final. However, he hardly got a chance to do anything in the second half. In fact, United Brothers played much better in the second half. But they couldn’t overcome the main problem. Despite building some good attacks, the finishing was not good at all.

Rongmei FC entered the defensive shell from the first minute of the second half. Taking advantage of this, United Brothers returned to the fight. They attacked the opponent’s defense one after the other. The defense line of Rongmei was somewhat disrupted due to it. Rongmei FC started to play rough to take control of the match. Nantu Das, the defender of the team incurred the loss. He received his marching order after seeing the second yellow card in the match. As a result Rongmei FC got reduced to ten players. The age of the match was 69 minutes then. Two minutes later, United Brothers’ Isak missed a great opportunity. In the 73rd minute, the Poylapool club got another great chance to score the equalizer. However, Isak again failed to score this time.

Rongmei FC, which was defending continuously, got a chance to widen the score gap by counter attack. But Gaihum Rongmei failed use the opportunity to his advantage. Rongmei FC managed to create only a single chance in the second half. Missing that opportunity wasn’t a factor, though. In the end, Gaihum’s goal turned out to be decisive.

Rongmei FC got 30,000 rupees along with trophy for winning the championship. The runner-up United Brothers got trophy 20,000 rupees. Gaihum Rongmei of Rongmei team was selected as the best player of the final.
