School student injured in a mishap; enraged residents block Silchar - Aizawl road

A class-VI student sustained critical injuries in a road mishap at Panibhora in Cachar district on Tuesday.

The boy Rohit Deb, son of Rajat Deb, is a student of Krishnacharan High School at Panibhora.

Sources said the accident took place around 9am this morning when Rohit was on his way to school on a bicycle. As soon as he reached near the school gate, a motor-cycle which was coming from the opposite end collided head-on with his cycle as a result of which he fell on the road and was gravely injured.

Panibhora falls under Dholai constituency, around 28km from Silchar.

Local residents immediately gathered on the spot after which Rohit, who was bleeding profusely, was taken to Silchar Medical College and Hospital.

A group of agitated residents blocked the Silchar-Aizawl road in protest against the mishap. The residents blamed reckless driving for the accident and demanded arrest of the rider (who was riding the bike). The blockade was withdrawn after around one-and-a-half hours following intervention of the police. The motor-cycle was taken to the local police station later. The rider managed to flee the spot immediately after the incident.
