Silchar Boy expresses interest to join ULFA on Facebook, arrested by Cachar Police
A Facebook profile that goes by the name of “Bappa Kumar” has attracted the attention of the Social Media vigilance team of Assam Police. The account is managed by Bappa Kumar a resident of Silchar’s Malugram area. He shared a news link on his timeline with a caption, “Good Job, I readi joining plzzzz address give….”
While this looks like a random post with atrocious English, the news link is what makes it sensitive enough to ring an alarm bell at the desk of the Cyber Vigilance team. The news item stated that there is a good number of young residents of Assam, who are joining militant outfit, United Liberation Front of Assam (ULFA). As his post expresses his interest to join militancy, the Cachar Police has gone ahead and arrested him. Police sources confirmed that he was produced before the judge and has been forwarded to custody.
His friends and family members were surprised to learn about Bappa Kumar’s arrest. Family sources informed that he had appeared for the Police Recruitment Test held recently and passed the physical test. However, he was not called for the next round as he could not meet the cutoff. In fact, there was a protest staged in Silchar to demonstrate against the imposition of Cut Off in Police recruitment. Bappa Kumar too was a part of the demonstration.
Bappa Kumar stays at Sukhoda Palli, Itkhola Malugram. His acquaintances have reiterated that Kumar always believed in “Nationalism” and shared pro-country posts on Social Media.
While the family and friends like to believe that the post was an innocuous mistake, there is a section that feels the expression to join ULFA came from the dejection as he failed to join the Police.
