Silchar Civic Polls Tomorrow, Cachar Administration Completes Final Preparations

The Cachar district administration has completed all preparations for the Silchar Municipal Corporation election, which will be held on Saturday across 40 wards.

A total of 303 polling stations have been set up for the election, with around 2.70 lakh voters expected to exercise their franchise. As many as 131 candidates are contesting from the 40 wards going to polls.

Cachar SSP Partha Pratim Das said the police administration is fully prepared to ensure peaceful polling. He said adequate police personnel have been deployed, with one police personnel and one Home Guard assigned to each polling station as per the State Election Commission’s guidelines.

Security arrangements have also been strengthened in sensitive locations, where State Armed Police personnel have been kept ready. Police teams will also conduct continuous movement in sensitive areas to monitor the situation and respond to any requirement.

The SSP said election materials have already been dispatched to the polling stations and expressed hope that the election would be conducted peacefully.

Cachar Deputy Commissioner Rahul Kumar Gupta said around 2.70 lakh voters are eligible to vote in the election. He said sector officers, sector magistrates and police sector officials have also been deployed to oversee polling arrangements.

Election materials, including ballot papers, were dispatched from the strong room at the Silchar ISBT in Ramnagar on Friday. Presiding officers, polling officers and other election personnel were seen leaving for their respective polling stations with the required materials.

The Silchar Municipal Corporation has 42 wards in total. However, BJP candidates have already been declared elected unopposed in two wards, leaving 40 wards for polling on Saturday.

The Deputy Commissioner also appealed to voters to come out and exercise their democratic right to vote.
