Silchar Collegiate School's Golden Jubilee celebrations commence with colorful procession led by Alumni Association

The year-long program of Golden Jubilee celebrations of Silchar Collegiate School began on Monday with a vibrant procession led by the Alumni Association of Silchar Collegiate School. The procession started from Narsingtola Maidan at 7 am and saw the participation of students who had passed the matriculation examination from 1984 to 2023, current students, teaching staff, locals, and a band party.

The procession proceeded to Sadarghat through Gandhi Bagh, where homage was paid to the idol of Swami Vivekananda. It passed through Janiganj-Tulapatty-Central Road-Premtala-Ambicapatty Church Road and concluded at the Collegiate School premises. The school flag was hoisted by the headmistress Shaswati Roy in the presence of guests, including current and former students.

Headmistress Shaswati Roy commended the School Alumni Association for their initiative in organising the procession and urged the alumnis to extend their support towards the development of the school. Tapan Das, General Secretary of Collegiate School’s Alumni Association, shared that various events are planned throughout the year to celebrate the Golden Jubilee, including the construction of a new school gate, medical camp, self-defense training for girls, AIDS awareness camp for girls, Inter-Barak Dance Competition, Collegiate Premier League, Food Fest, free education for two students of the school for one year, idea competition, motivational speakers for students and various cultural events. Additionally, alumni who have achieved success in their lives after studying at SCS will be honored.

Sanjeev Roy, Media In-charge of the Festival Committee, stated that the year-long program, which started on April 24, 2023, will continue till April 24, 2024, marking the 50th anniversary of the establishment of the school. He highlighted that the school’s journey began in 1974 at Arun Kumar Chanda Law College and shifted to the current location in 1981, with 19 students appearing for the HSLC examination from the school in 1984. Currently, the school has over two thousand students.

The Alumni Association was formed in 2019 to celebrate the Golden Jubilee of the school, and its members have been actively involved in social work, including during the COVID-19 pandemic and recent floods.

Former students of the school, including Ratankar Bhavan, Biswajit Paul, Tarun Sethia, Rajiv Dutta, Dhuti Paul, Ajay Agarwal, Navina Yasmin, Dolanchapa Laskar, Priyam Choudhury, Joydeep Biswas, Lucky Choudhury, Apu Dutta, and others, were present in the procession, showcasing their support for their Alma Mater’s Golden Jubilee celebration.
