Silchar-Guwahati Train for May 9 Cancelled as Track Repair Works Continue

In Barak Valley, the current weather has been relatively pleasant, but the looming threat of storm showers persists. Recently, Silchar and the surrounding areas have endured multiple storms, causing damage to infrastructure. These storms have severely impacted railway connectivity, resulting in consecutive train cancellations.

N.F. Railway has once again issued a notice regarding train cancellations for May 9, 2024, due to ongoing track repair work. The repairs are necessary to address issues at KM – 110/7 between Jatinga Lampur and New Harangajao under the Lumding division.

According to the official announcement by Chief Public Relations Officer Sabyasachi De, the following trains are cancelled: Train no. 15615/15616 (Guwahati – Silchar – Guwahati) Express scheduled for departure on May 9, 2024, and Train no. 05628/05627 (Agartala – Guwahati – Agartala) Special scheduled for departure on May 9 and 10, 2024, from Agartala and Guwahati respectively.

The cancellation of these trains adds to the challenges faced by residents and travelers in Barak Valley. The possibility of the region becoming landlocked and disconnected from the wider world has sparked debates among the people of Silchar. It’s imperative for residents and travelers to plan their journeys accordingly, considering the ongoing disruptions in railway services.

According to the latest report from the Indian Meteorological Department (IMD), there are chances of thundershowers in the valley until May 12. Residents are advised to stay updated with weather forecasts and take necessary precautions to ensure their safety during the inclement weather conditions.
