SP Gaurav Upadhyay transferred, APS Nabaneet Mahanta is the new SP of Hailakandi

The Superintendent of Police of Hailakandi, IPS Gaurav Upadhyay has been transferred. The IPS Officer will now be replaced by APS Officer Nabaneet Mahanta. Nabaneet Mahanta is currently posted as the SP of Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) of Guwahati. Whereas IPS Gaurav Upadhyay is being transferred as the Superintended of Police for the R&AC branch of Assam Police.

The new SP of Hailakandi will take over the charge after the transfer of IPS Gaurav Upadhyay. IPS Gaurav Upadhyay has played a pivotal role in defending the borders Hailakandi shares with Mizoram along the Dholaikhal. Last year, when the Mizoram police was constructing roads and Border Out Post within the border of Assam in Hailakandi, Gaurav Upadhyay himself trekked to the site to stop the illegal constructions. It was also alleged by his Mizoram counterparts that he has kidnapped a Mizo driver at gunpoint. The SP has also played a pivotal role in Assam Police’s “War on Drugs” during his posting in Hailakandi.

In an order passed by the Assam Government’s Home Department, this transfer was notified. The order read, “In the interest of public service, Shri Nabaneet Mahanta, APS (DR-2004), Deputy Commissioner of Police (West), Guwahati is transferred and posted as Superintendent of Police, Hailakandi with effect from the date of taking over charge vice Shri Gaurav Upadhyay, IPS transferred”.
