Special Operation by Cachar Police and STF Results in Major Drug Bust worth crores in Silchar
In a significant crackdown on narcotics transportation, the Cachar Police, in collaboration with the Special Task Force (STF), conducted a successful operation in the early hours of June 26, 2024. The operation took place in Krishnapur, Silchar, leading to the apprehension of one individual and the seizure of a substantial quantity of heroin.
The apprehended suspect, identified as Md Jamsher Majumdar, aged 28, hailing from Badarpur Part I of the Borkhola area in Cachar, was found in possession of 68 soap cases containing a substance suspected to be heroin. The total weight of the confiscated heroin is approximately 900 grams, with an estimated market value of around 4.5 crores in the black market.
In addition to the narcotics, the authorities seized a Maruti WagonR vehicle, bearing registration number AS 01BY 7234, which was allegedly used in the illegal transportation of the drugs. Preliminary investigations reveal that the consignment of narcotics was being transported illegally from Champai, Mizoram.
Subrata Sen, the DySP of Cachar Police in this regard said, “We found the vehicle from the Silchar-Kalain Road in Krishnapur area under the Silchar Sadar Police Station and apprehended the drug peddler. From our preliminary investigation, we can say that this consignment of drugs came from the neighbouring state to Cachar”.
The successful operation underscores the continued efforts of the Cachar Police and STF to combat the illegal drug trade in the region. Further investigations are ongoing to uncover more details about the network involved in this illegal activity and to apprehend other individuals connected to the operation.
