Sribhumi's Nazrul Hoque To Get Assam Gaurav Award
Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma today (9 March), after the cabinet meeting, announced the winners of the Assam Saurav, Baibhav and Gaurav awards, recognising individuals for their exceptional contributions in various fields. Among the announced awardees, Nazrul Hoque from Sribhumi brought pride to the people of Barak Valley with his remarkable achievements in aquaculture.
Nazrul Hoque, a resident of Alekhargul near Badarpur town, found a spot on the list for the Assam Gaurav Award for his outstanding contributions to aquaculture. This prestigious recognition not only brings pride to the district of Sribhumi but also shines a spotlight on the entire Barak Valley region.
While announcing Nazrul Hoque’s name for the Assam Gaurav Award, Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma highlighted his contributions to aquaculture and employment generation. He stated, “From Sribhumi at aquaculture, he has been doing tremendous good work. He had provided employment to many young folks, and earlier, our government had promoted his good work under the APART Scheme, and today it has resulted in a successful venture.”
The Assam Gaurav Award is one of the state’s highest civilian honours, acknowledging exceptional service across various fields. Alongside Assam Baibhav and Assam Saurav, these awards are modelled after India’s Bharat Ratna and Padma Awards, aiming to celebrate excellence within Assam.
In 2023, Nazrul Hoque was also recognised nationally, receiving the Best Indian Fish Farmer Award from the National Fisheries Development Board under the Indian Council of Agricultural Research in Hyderabad. This recent accolade, however, highlights his significant impact within Assam, further elevating his status as a leading figure in sustainable aquaculture.
