Stone-Laden Dumper Plunges Into Gorge on Silchar-Haflong Highway, Six Seriously Injured
A horrific accident took place at Patimara on the Silchar-Haflong National Highway late on Friday (March 7) night when a stone-laden dumper lost control and plunged 50 feet into a gorge, leaving six people, including three women, seriously injured.
According to reports, the dumper was transporting stones from a quarry when its brakes allegedly failed at Patimara, causing it to veer off the road and crash into the gorge. The driver and five labourers sustained severe injuries in the accident.
Local residents and police rushed to the spot and rescued the injured, who were immediately taken to Borkhola PHC, but were referred to Silchar Medical College and Hospital (SMCH) due to the grievous nature of the injury.
The injured have been identified as driver Samrul Haque and workers Shefali Bauri, Ramesh Bauri, Sangeeta Bauri, Pratap Bauri, and Meera Bauri.
Police sources said there were a total of nine people on board, with some labourers sitting atop the stones loaded on the truck. While the injured have been hospitalised, as of early morning, the vehicle is yet to be recovered from the gorge.
