TDC students accuse Assam University of inconsistencies; wrote letter to vice chancellor DC Nath

After a three months delay Assam University released results of the graduation courses. Students of the university were already irked by the delay and the list made them go mad at the administration. They accused the university of inconsistencies in the published results and wrote a letter to the Vice Chancellor of the University Dilip Chandra Nath and expressed their issues.

In the letter the students accused the University of “playing with the future of students since many years.” They also requested the VC to draw his attention on the marksheets of the students “This year the management declared the TDC results after 100 days and yet about 65 per cent of the students have got a back on English, Financial Accounting, Business Maths etc. etc. some people got zero while one student got zero in all subjects.”

As per University Grants Commission rules every university must declare results within 45 days after the last examination. Vice Chancellor DC Nath assured the students that he will personally look into the matter and will make efforts to ensure that such delay is not repeated again. He said he and the administration is concerned about the dis-comfort of the students.

Few days ago Union Human Resource Development (HRD) Minister Prakash Javadekar released the India Rankings of National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) in New Delhi. While universities of the state like Tezpur and Gauhati managed to secure 29th and 39th rank, the Assam University was far behind the tally securing 87th rank putting a serious question mark on the quality of education imparted to its students.

The Assam University came into existence through Assam (Central) University Act, 1989 after a long struggle as people of Barak Valley felt the need to have a local authority for administering the degree level education and to make the education system vibrant. Before the establishment of this University the colleges of the valley were under the jurisdiction of Gauhati University.
