The Second Edition of “Theatre er Poush Porbo” (থিয়েটার এর পৌষ পরব) organised by Ajker Projonmo Theatre and Race Theatre is going to be held from December 16 to December 20, 2022. During this 5-day theatre festival, theatre groups from 7 cities spanning 3 states will stage their theatre production at Gandhi Bhawan auditorium. Every day there will be Prangone Porbo (প্রাঙ্গনে পরব) followed by productions by the theatre groups that are invited to the festival. The organisers are expecting a housefull turnout for all the shows.

The theatre festival will start on Friday, December 16 at 4 in the evening at Gandhi Bhawan, Silchar. The inauguration ceremony is at 5:30 PM followed by an award show. The first show is by the Bibartan Theatre group from Hailakandi and they are presenting “Khyatir Birambana”. Every day since day 2, there will be more than one production on stage. Before the theatre shows, every day there is Prangone Porbo, where different artists will perform music and songs before the theatre begins.

Sayan Biswas, an organiser and a theatre artist has informed us that there are ten theatre groups that will stage their plays and said, “On Day 1 after the opening ceremony, there is one production and since Day 2, some days there will be two plays and on some days three. The invited theatre groups include one group from Kolkata, one from Guwahati and Agartala. Other than that, we have one team coming from our neighbouring district Hailakandi and three groups from Karimganj. From our own town, we have three groups performing as well. Every day the production will start at 5:30 in the evening at Gandhi Bhawan auditorium”.

Speaking about the expected footfall, Sweta Roy from Ajker Projonmo said, “Theatre fests have become rare now but we are expecting a houseful show on all 5 days just like last year. All the groups that are performing have highly skilled artists and their plays are powerful as well. We have also got good responses both online and offline. People have also requested if we can wrap the show at 8 PM on December 18 as the FIFA final match falls on the same day”.

There is a total of 11 plays that will be staged in the theatre fest.
