
Tragic: Truck Driver Killed in Suspected Hit-and-Run on Silchar-Haflong National Highway
A truck driver believed to be from Punjab was killed in a suspected hit-and-run incident at Madhurapul on the Silchar-Haflong National Highway last night (June 22).
According to local sources, residents noticed a bloodied body lying beside the highway and immediately informed the police. A police team later arrived at the scene and recovered the body before sending it to Silchar Medical College and Hospital for post-mortem examination.
Locals said the deceased was known in the area and was often referred to as “Sardarji”. They claimed he was a truck driver from Punjab, although his identity had not been officially confirmed at the time of filing this report.
Residents suspect that the man was walking along the highway when he was struck by an unidentified vehicle. The vehicle allegedly fled the scene after the collision.
However, the exact circumstances leading to the death remain unclear. A local witness said he did not see the incident take place and only came across the body after the incident had occurred. He added that it was not yet known who was responsible or whether any other factors were involved.
Police have initiated an investigation to ascertain the cause of the death and identify the vehicle involved. Further details are awaited.
