Vaccination for 18+ to start in Silchar; Cachar administration shortlists 5 centres

A few days ago we mentioned how youngsters registering for vaccine slots weren’t scheduled an appointment making them anxious. This was the common scenario reported in Silchar as well as several other parts of the country. Infact most of the states were in a doldrum as the centre changed it’s vaccination policy allowing states to procure their own doses directly from the pharmaceutical companies.

Now, as a sigh of relief Assam government has already procured vaccine doses and the vaccination process for people aged 18 years and above will start from tomorrow onwards in Silchar.

In a letter sent by the District Immunisation Officer of Silchar to the Inspector of Schools, Cachar and the Direct Elementary Education Officer; five vaccination sites have been earmarked in Silchar. They are Chotelal Seth Institute, Shillongpatty; Adharchand HS School, Ambicapatty; Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan HS School; Abhyacharan Bhattacharjee Pathshala, Dhakkapatty; Nazirpatty Model Primary School. The principals of the respective schools have been advised to allocate rooms and adequate space for smooth functioning of the vaccination drive from 7th May onwards.

It maybe noted that State Health Minister Himanta Biswa Sharma recently shared an order of 1.5 million doses of Covaxin for Assam ordered from Bharat Biotech for the 18-44 age category.
