Veteran Octopad musician Munna Sinha passes away due to cardiac arrest

Veteran and renowned musician of Silchar, Munna Sinha has passed away today morning due to cardiac arrest. The hugely experienced octopad player, who happens to be the founding member of the Rising Orchestra Band of Silchar, expired at the Silchar Medical College & Hospital on Monday at 10:10 am. He is a resident of Itkhola, Silchar and at the time of his death, he was 51 years old.

Musician Munna Sinha has two siblings, one elder sister and one younger brother in his family. He has left behind his wife and his lone son at the time of his death. Throughout his career, Munna has played and recorded with a plethora of artists and musicians all over the valley, hitting frequent shows before the pandemic arrived. Not only Barak Valley, Munna da, as he was fondly addressed among his close ones, has toured and performed in many places of the country as well during his decades-old career.

A full-time professional musician, Munna da is the pioneer of the octopad instrument in the valley as he’s undoubtedly one of the most sought-after octopad players in this region. Talking about his long-lasting legacy, Raju Sengupta, who is also another veteran musician and has shared the stage with him on innumerable occasions, said, “Munna da is a pioneering musician of this valley and his departure has created a huge void in the music community of this valley. Until before the pandemic hit us, he used to regularly get invitations from cities like Guwahati to perform during Bihu festivals. He was one of the oldest octopad players in the city and has inspired so many people like us across generations. We still can’t believe that he’s no more among us.”

With the untimely demise of Munna Sinha, his well-wishers, family and also the entire music community of Silchar is mourning the fall of such a musical icon. His last rites will be performed today according to the family traditions.
