Water recedes at Panchgram Sinking Zone; “Road open for all types of vehicular traffic,” PWD 

The water level of river Barak at Annarpurna Ghat has receded to 21.07 metre but it is still way above the danger level – 19.83 metres. River water has flooded into many residential areas of Barak Valley. However, what comes as a major respite commuters, water has receded from the Panchgram sinking zone.

It is worth mentioning here that on May 19, Panchgram zone in the Silchar – Badarpur road was declared closed for vehicular traffic as it got submerged.

“NH-53 Silchar-Badarpur road at Panchgram near petrol pump area is submerged and considering the vulnerability of passage of vehicles in the submerged area as per Notification issued by Executive Engineer, PWD, NH Division, Silchar vide Memo No.EENH/SIL/TB-14/2013-14/348-62 dtd.19.05.2022, the Panchgram Sinking Zone Area (29th Km.) is closed for all types of heavy vehicles at both ends of the Sinking Zone area 29th Km) with immediate effect until further order,” issued the administration.

For vehicles coming from Karimganj to Hailakandi and vice versa of vehicles were diverted via Ramkrishna Nagar-Lakhinagar route and vehicle coming from Karimganj

Badarpur town side were diverted via Mokoi Bhanga-Bharabnagar-Serishpur-Hailakandi.

Similarly, for vehicles coming from Guwahati to Silchar and vice versa of vehicles were diverted via Kalain-Bihara-Bhangarpar road or Tarapur-Arunachal Kalain-Bihara-Bhangarpar-Silchar.

Executive Engineer of PWD NH, A. Mondal informed that the road has been declared open. “The water has receded from the sinking zone and so, all types of vehicles can ply through this road,” informed Mondal.
