With 'Gaurav Cachar' theme, Administration raising awareness among voters to exercise their constitutional right

Under the Systematic Voter Education and Electronics Participation (SVEEP), the Cachar District Administration has undertaken a new project named ‘Gaurav Cachar’ to raise awareness among the voters to excercise their constitutional rights. Cachar Deputy Commissioner Keerti Jalli recently started the theme ‘Gaurav Cachar’ before unveiling a mascot to the public. The administration has already started taking steps to motivate young voters in the district to vote in the upcoming election.

While speaking at the event, DC Keerti Jalli said, “The Cachar district has its own rich history. The Station Committee meeting that took place here in 1882, it was mentioned in that meeting that Cachar will move away from monarchy to democracy. On that basis, Silchar Municipality was later formed. There are also the last ruins of Dimasa rule in the Cachar district. We still get to see samples of highly advanced engineering in those ruins to this very day. Keeping that historical relevance in mind, our theme this time is ‘Gaurav Cachar’. We want every youth of the district to practice their right to democracy by keeping in mind that rich history. The highest right of democracy is to elect their own representatives and they will get that opportunity in near future. We want them to come forward at their own initiative, vote for whomever they like and if they don’t like anybody, they have the option of NOTA (None Of The Above).”

During that event, the Silchar Municipality sweeper workers were felicitated by the District Administration. In this case, the DC said, “Last year, when everyone was confined to their homes during the difficult time of coronavirus outbreak, these workers have kept the whole city clean by risking their lives. Containment zones were set up in different areas and they have shown courage by clearing the trash that has come out of those places. We salute them and plan to put them in the forefront this year to make voters aware.”

A small event was held at the Silchar Municipality office premises this morning. Various officials including the Deputy Commissioner took part in it. They first started the ceremony by lighting a lamp. After giving felicitating the sweeping staff, and then inaugurating the ‘Gaurav Cachar’, a mascot was unveiled to the public. The election polling dates have been announced for the entire state including the Cachar district on Friday afternoon. Cachar’s polling date is on April 1, hence before that, various events will be organized to aware the young generation of voters about the election.

Also that day, a voter awareness drama was performed by a social organization. In the coming days, they will make the voters aware through street plays in different areas of the district.
